A podcast audio checklist before you publish

Check speech, transitions, loudness, and the final exported file before releasing your next podcast episode.

Fix the edit before the master

Listen once for content and structure before adjusting sound. Remove accidental repeats, check the opening, and make sure transitions do not cut off words. Audio processing cannot decide which answer belongs in the story.

Mark troublesome timestamps rather than repeatedly restarting the episode. Separate editing problems, such as an abrupt cut, from sound problems, such as a quieter guest. Solve them in that order.

Keep speech comfortable

Compare the host and guest at a fixed playback volume. If one person requires a large volume adjustment, address that imbalance before judging the overall master. Listen to laughter and excited phrases as well as ordinary speech.

Use the destination platform’s current delivery requirements. Apple publishes its own audio specifications; do not assume that one preset or loudness number guarantees acceptance by every podcast host. Keep the delivery brief with your export notes.

Check the file listeners receive

Play the exported file from beginning to end when the episode is important. Check the opening, transitions, quiet passages, and ending even when time is limited. An editing timeline can sound correct while the wrong range or version gets exported.

Verify the title, episode artwork, and file you are uploading. Listen on both headphones and a phone speaker. Our suggested final check is a short walk-through by someone who has not been editing the episode all day.

Build a repeatable routine

Keep a small checklist with the project: content approved, speech balanced, platform requirements checked, final file auditioned. Reuse a profile only after testing it on that episode. A different microphone or room can change what the recording needs.
