A preview-first mastering workflow

How to move from raw audio to a finished master using diagnosis, sound profiles, before/after listening, metadata, and final export.

Study goals

What you will understand

This guide is written for creators who want practical audio decisions, not abstract engineering theory.

01

Understand why a 30-second preview is useful before a full render.

02

Know what to listen for in the before/after comparison.

03

Use additional profiles as alternatives rather than restarting the whole session.

Lessons

Short, practical guidance you can apply while comparing previews and preparing a master.

01

Compare the same moment, not two different memories

Before/after listening works best when you replay the same section and focus on one question at a time: clarity, noise, loudness, tone, or consistency.

  • Start with the section that has the biggest problem.
  • Then check a quiet section for noise and artifacts.
  • Finally check a loud section for clipping, harshness, or pumping.
02

Try multiple profiles when the destination is uncertain

A speech recording might work as Podcast Voice, Voice Clarity, Lecture Clean, or Transcription Clean depending on its final use. Multiple previews are cheaper than committing to the wrong full master.

  • Use Podcast Voice for published spoken shows.
  • Use Voice Clarity for narration and explainers.
  • Use Transcription Clean when speech-to-text accuracy is the priority.
Before export

Practical checklist

Use these checks while comparing previews and preparing a full master.

  • Save access tokens for guest masters until the download is complete.
  • Create another preview with a different profile if the first result is close but not right.
  • Confirm metadata before final delivery.
